Julia Watson-Shaw – Staff Nurse ICU Unit Calderdale Royal Hospital
"I normally work in an operating theatre but redeployed as an ICU nurse at the moment which means we’re wearing the full PPE, face masks and gowns and looking after the really poorly corvid-19 patients, so it’s been a massive learning curve for me and hard going from my normal skills to a new place, meeting new people and learning new ICU skills with a (PPE) communication barrier – its very difficult. The shifts are long, and it is scary - we’re as scared as anybody else, it’s hard and really intense, frightening, but on the positive side we’re meeting such nice people, and people who are in the same boat so there is camaraderie and as we’re getting through it we feel that we might be achieving something."
