Kate Naylor – Supermarket Shop Assistant
"When the Government said we had to stay at home there was lots of people panic buying and the toilet rolls sold out, along with different types of cleaning products, pasta, rice, milk, cooking ingredients, hand soap, everything! The company had to put restrictions on how much of an item you could buy and they are still monitoring how many people enter the shop and sometimes you have to queue although carers and support workers are allowed to shop earlier than anyone else.. We had lots of staff on the shop floor, as other areas in the store had to close, to get food items back on the shelves quickly. When they put the cap on how many items you could buy it affected me when I could only sell 3 baby food items. We have screens at the check-out and between the queues and we have sanitiser and gloves, although I don’t wear gloves but regularly wash my hands. I just accept it all now and make sure my hands are clean."
