Joanne Naylor – Staff Nurse, Covid Wards at Bradford Royal Infirmary
“I originally worked on the female surgical ward at Bradford Royal Infirmary but since the pandemic they have shut that ward down and redeployed our staff to one of the corvid positive wards where I’ve been working for about 7 weeks now. Considering that I only started nursing at the beginning of February, as I qualified in 2019, it has been a big change and not what I was expecting, but not many people can say they started nursing when a pandemic hit definitely a baptism of fire! This has been a further challenge for me, wearing all the PPE is difficult it can be quite restrictive and probably very scary for the patients. It’s been really hard, very emotional at times but that’s what I’m here for, and the rest of the nurses, to offer support and be the hand to hold at the end when family can’t come and see them. We’re just there for the patients and we’re there to the end and till all this finishes.”
