Carole Benson – Assistant Cook at Woodbank Special School
"The Cook in charge can’t come in because her husband is waiting for an operation so I’m going in to do sandwiches every day. There are only 16 children in but today I’ve only made sandwiches for 13 as some of the children have started to bring their own. Normally I work from about 8.30 till 1.15 and help supervise the children over lunch, but at the moment I go in between 7.45-8.00 and finish at 10.00 as all I’m doing now is making sandwiches! I try and keep myself to myself, although the other staff have to be with the children and can’t be 2m apart because of their social needs. One of the staff made masks and they also have aprons and gloves but I don’t think they are wearing the masks as some of the children are frightened and don’t understand. I have to isolate myself there, do my job and come home."
