Steve Wormald – Luddenden Lord Mayor and Shop Assistant for Aldi UK
"I'm the current Mayor of Luddenden but unfortunately at the moment as a key worker I’m working at Aldi non-stop but we do have volunteers helping im the community through this corvid-19 by delivering, doing people’s shopping for them and giving out food packages. I'm a store assistant in Aldi so we’re there every day stacking up shelves and keeping the people with food. Its changed dramatically because everyone has had to keep their 2 metres, we have screens in front of us at check-out and of course the through-put is generally less although I have noticed that people are generally now buying a week’s shopping rather than going in daily. But there are still a lot of people paying in cash unfortunately and that is one of the biggest problem we have to put up with. I caught the virus quite early on and I think that was through the situation with the money as non of the other staff or anyone I knew had got it at the store. It lasted about 3-4 days then went back to work after 7 days of isolation with the doctor’s telling me it was OK. Because I live on my own the situation wasn’t as bad. It took me quite a while to get over it because it does drain you and the only thing that I hope is that anyone who gets it gets it the same way - a mild symptom and get back to work."
